Greetings! My name is Laura Mevis. I am very excited to have
the opportunity to pursue a second career and my true passion- teaching. I
currently hold a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and History, as well as
several credits toward my MBA. I spent
10 years working in the student financial aid industry assisting students and
parents to understand the maze of the financial aid process. This job required a lot of travel. While
I enjoyed the experiences of traveling, I needed to move on to the next phase
of my life. So, for the last
twelve years, I have been a stay-at-home mom to three fabulous children.
I consider this my most important job yet.
My favorite activity is volunteering and working at my
children’s school. On school days, I can be found helping in the school
library, assisting with classroom activities or working the daily lunch and
recess duty. I have a true passion for education and being involved with my children
every step of the way inspires me every day. I also love to scrapbook both
traditionally and digitally. I have chronicled my children’s school years through
the pictures I have taken of all their parties, field trips, musical concerts
and sports activities. These are memories they will have for a lifetime. I am
also an avid reader. I love reading with my kids, to my kids and reading for
pleasure myself. Literature has always been an integral part of my life and it’s
something I will carry with me into the classroom to share with my students.
I am a strong believer that each child has special gifts. My
goal is to help each child discover his/her gifts and realize their full
potential. I am extremely interested in curriculum differentiation and my goal
as an educator is for every student to be appropriately challenged and develop
a true love of learning.
Please visit my blog often as I embark on my educational
journey to teacher licensure!
